Hysteria and irrationality

Hate jumping onto the headline bandwagon, but Carey informed me that her uncle and cousin who reside in New Zealand made headlines in their local newspaper after they were both quarantined following a football match with a team from Mexico in which one of their players was positive for the virus (the rest of her cousin's squadron was also put on watch). The rest of their household was not put under quarantine, though. Makes perfect sense, eh? You can read the article here.

For a reliable, factual resource regarding swine flu (and pretty much anything scientific in general) astronomer Phil Plait's blog is a good place to start. Go there, damn you, and stay away from those conspiratorial nutjobs, why don't ya?

The great gift

I was lucky enough to see these guys perform at Bass Hall on my 21st birthday. This particular clip was taken from a concert at the Belfast Opera House in 1991.

If you were to Ava Gardner, she'd be the one to have.

I know. It's an antique...

More "Bonnet Era" Rainbow

LiLiPUT on the commute, Rainbow at home. I don't see a conflict.

I swear that I used to have a neighbor who was a dead ringer for Graham Bonnet...

Needed a fire fighter, though

Tasteless? Yeah. I guess I'll eat some "humble pie" for that one.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is called a lame lead in.

A couple from their debut, Rattus Norvegicus (1977),

...a couple from their fourth, The Raven (1979), from La Folie (1981; yes, their big hit), and a single (the Bacharach/David tune; 1978).

More strange dreams

I was back living in the house on Whitman Avenue while the neighborhood was under siege by zombies. An undead Wyatt Earp (accompanied by a manservant who resembled Burt Young) broke into my house and cornered me in the master bedroom, firing a Colt revolver towards me while I attempted to hide on the floor between the side of the bed and the bathroom door.

Scary monsters

I had a dream last night that I had to search for Freddie Mercury on a street named Dobson Drive utilizing a GPS in which the screen display looked like a map from Oblivion. On the way to the house that Mercury was located at I ended up in a David Bowie video in which he played a cross-dressing murderer/victim. Then it seems I lost this absurd plot.

I'm all of the sudden at Competition Music, ready have a jam session with G.B., Donald Fagen, and Walter Becker. While everyone is waiting to set up for the show I noticed my old black Gretsch hanging among the other guitars, but what peaked my interest is a sarangi lying on the floor and stringed with yarn. As I play it, the yarn breaks. I also noticed that it's priced as "4 for $0.50".

Freddie Mercury and Steely Dan. What a fucking nightmare!

Cape time

It's what's playing in the noggin today. The horn break is an instant adrenaline rush every time!

To the beginning

Thanks to my sister, Duran Duran was the first group I fell head over heels for... musically, that is. I still love these guys. What I wouldn't give just to play the triangle with them.

Dream a little dream

Before joining Hawkwind, Lemmy was the guitarist in Sam Gopal (which he described his own playing ability as "mediocrity squared"!). From Escalator (1968).
