Beat it... to death

Ken's post from yesterday brought to my attention a version of The Stooges' "Johanna" I never heard before. It's a tune Ig and the boys never seemed fully satisfied with, thus the many, many reworkings (and, in my opinion, became more and more lifeless with each revision). By the time the song was "officially" released on Kill City (the Pop/Williamson collaboration) it had lost its primal edge.

Here's an early version which I originally discovered on the French fan club released Rubber Legs LP. Too bad the tune wasn't left alone because this incarnation was one hell of a monster.

yeah, this is a hot versh, but we'll prolly wind up playing the other one because it's better recorded and hembree can hear the bass. except maybe turn hurley loose like williamson on this, more so than the by-the-numbers dumbbell solo on the one i posted.
