After being down and out in regards to health over the past several weeks, I finally finished the mixes for a couple of HIO recordings from April and May's Improvised Silence performances, and the audio artifact from this month's Big Orchestra "summit meeting" in Denton, last night.

1. I have been ill for the last several days which has been a fecking annoyance, as it has caused me to miss a couple of events that I was looking forward to attending. Sleep has been my primary activity as of late, which is obviously a consequence of being fatigued (also leading to losing track of days, and also acting a right cow). Hoping to feel back on kilter soon.

Two musical entities introduced to me this past week via Leslie Conner's fantastic piece, In Between Blooms, which was performed at TWU's DanceMakers Concert: Carpet Musics and Colleen. A selection of their sublime sounds:
The Golden Morning Breaks (2005)
As mentioned many times before by yours truly, I am quite rubbish at promoting. Last Friday there were two new releases uploaded onto the HIO Bandcamp page. Jam - 30 March 2013 is the first audio artifact created by Big Orchestra, a creative "think tank" consisting of HIO, Big Rig Dance Collective, Sarah Gamblin, and several other talented individuals within the Dallas/Denton/Fort Worth area. The second aural product, Improvised Silence - Live at the Cellar, 31 March 2013, is self-explanatory, me thinks.
Both releases are free or (if you're feeling generous) can name your own price. Check them out, why don't ye?

I've been taking a walk on the Garside this week (A shit pun? Well, yes... ). Queenadreena's sophomore outing, Drink Me (2002), accompanied me on yesterday's commute. Today has consisted of Katie Jane Garside's solo effort, Lalleshwari/Lullabies in a Glass Wilderness (the 2006 edition), and Ruby Throat's O' Doubt O' Stars (2012).

Our performances from Hailey's in Denton last Wednesday (Blobbypalooza) and the Cellar for this month's Improvised Silence on Sunday (Improvised Silence - Live at the Cellar, 24 February 2013, which we were joined again with our buddy, Kavin Allenson) are available to download on Bandcamp. Check them out, why don't ye?

"Speed" is the word and "quick" is the action...

The audio document of the latest HIO/Big Rig Dance Collective collaboration (from this past week's 12th Annual Barefoot Brigade Dance Festival) is available to download. Not only can you hear Terry Horn, Mark Kitchens, and I making a racket but you can also observe with your ears the sounds of Whitney Boomer, Crysta Caulkins-Clouse, Amie Davis, Amanda Jackson, Néstor Leonardo Pérez, and Lily Sloan dancing. Go and check it out, why don't ya?

The final tune and video to be created under the Joe and The Sonic Dirt From Madagascar moniker were released this past weekend. Time to close this particular chapter in my life... whatever that means.
Tomorrow through Saturday I will be joining Mr. Horn and Mr. Kitchens, performing as Hentai Improvising Orchestra at the Bath House Cultural Center with our comrades, Big Rig Dance Collective. Part of the 12th Annual Barefoot Brigade Modern Dance Festival (the HIO/BRDC piece is entitled Acres and Perches), and the performances begin at 8:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase at the door and online.

Since Wednesday evening I've been housebound, lumbered with an annoying respiratory infection (as if a pleasant respiratory infection exists... ). I feel a lot better today, though it seems that I am determined to expel both lungs from my body via coughing. Tomorrow it's back to work I go.
For whatever reason (though I can think of a few, actually... none which I will give. Why? Because I can, dagblastit!) I obsessively listened to the sounds created by some nifty individuals from Ladbroke Grove during my contagion-enforced holiday. A selection of tracks from the albums spun over the last four days:
The Deviants, Disposable (1968)
Twink, Think Pink (1969)
Hawkwind, Hawkwind (1970)
Pink Fairies, Kings of Oblivion (1973)
Mick Farren, "Play With Fire" (B/W "Lost Johnny"; 1977)
Mick Farren, Vampires Stole My Lunch Money (1978)
