Adieu, Bob

Damn and blast. A nod to Mr. Hoskins, who died yesterday at the age of 71. The last track and video that was released under the JATSDFM moniker, which was inspired (obviously) by a- er, quite memorable scene, from one of my favourite films, The Long Good Friday. What better way to remember the man, eh? Many other ways, actually, but nevertheless...

More bits n' bobs

"Uncle Insomnia" returned a while back, which has left me feeling (as one may expect) not at my mental and physical best for quite some time. Needless to say, I do not enjoy it. The fatigue, edginess, and general "thick-headiness" (which usually results in "thick-tongueiness") are counterbalanced by a spur of creative energy during these spells of sleeplessness, ironically. I wished that I could be as motivated and productive regarding my auditory shenanigans when I am rested and in full command of my faculties.

Whinge, whinge, whinge, I know...

Moving on... Been immersing myself into the works of Lyla Foy during the past couple of weeks, who I discovered when she performed on Loose Ends. Ended up purchasing her latest album, Mirrors the Sky (2014). Really solid stuff, me thinks!

The Gaul of it all: A stream of consciousness

Began the evening with tinkering about in the studio and ended up listening to the works of French composer/singer/poet/anarchist Léo Ferré.

Don't ask. There is no logic to this...

Posted below are a couple of his songs that seem to particularly resonate with me, though my grasp of the French language is next to nil. Music is a wonderful medium for transcending languages and cultures, indeed.

Les Fleurs du mal (1957)

Amour Anarchie (1970)

Joining the modern world

Finished recording vocals for the Brokegrove Lads tunes this past Sunday, after which I retired my ancient computer from service. Regardless of the various hardware and software "gremlins", I kept it in use to help expedite the recording project, as I had surmised that it would take a bit of time for me to become acquainted with the new audio and video programmes. Old dog/new tricks, etc. etc. ... The new rig seems to be working quite well, and I have begun the process of familiarizing myself with the newfangled (well... to me, at least) editors (ACID Music Studio 10, WaveLab Elements 8, and Lightworks 11.5). Fingers crossed.

A "logical" follow-up (and the obvious continuation of bad puns utilized for post titles)

Finally getting around to transferring my collection of Essential Logic and Lora Logic vinyl to digital. Tonight: The twelve inch single, "Wonderful Offer" (1981). Uploaded a video onto YouTube for the second B-side track, "Rather Than Repeat", which, as one could conclude upon viewing, puts the works of Kubrick and Lucas to shame...
